Emily’s images in MISS/FOCUS showcase the loving and unpredictable nature of shooting on analogue.
Living in an era when print has shifted to digital has meant endless retakes in search of a perfect image, to then, editing to further create ultimate perfection. The one-shot approach with analogue is what’s drawn Emily to play with film and vintage cameras for the past 15+ years.
The images shown were captured between 2022 and 2025 and celebrate the small mishaps and unexpected – yet beautiful – moments that come with shooting analogue.
Light leaks, blur, miss focus results and other imperfections aren’t seen as mistakes, but reminders of the unpredictability of life and how those flaws are what make an image more interesting and desirable.
Alongside the photographs, Emily’s MISS/FOCUS collection includes a series of Super 8 film mini movies. These films carry the same love of spontaneity and imperfections, extending her analogue approach into motion.
All images were developed and scanned on the Gold Coast by Lazarus Lab.
